How to use Hair Clippers?

Hair Clippers, how to best do the job?

Choosing and using the Braun hair clippers for your style

To do any job well, you need the right tools – and styling your hair at home is no different. Picking the perfect Hair clippers, and understanding how to use them effectively ensures you can always achieve the style you want with minimal fuss and maximum enjoyment.

Step 1: Choose the right Hair clippers and guard size

To pick the perfect clippers, think carefully about the styles you want to create now and in future. To cut and style different hair lengths, most products come with a choice of combs, guards and other attachments, but some also allow you to adjust blade angles. This is useful if you want to maintain a uniform length across your whole head. As a quick guide to clipper guard lengths, a grade 7 or 8 leaves a sensible 25mm or so of growth; below grade 4 and we’re entering armed forces territory, so make sure the clippers you choose have the right guards for your style. Step 2: Dry before you try.

Dripping wet hair is pretty much impossible to cut properly with clippers, so don’t even try. A good towel dry helps prevent the clipper blades rusting and makes it much easier for you to achieve the style you want.

Step 3: The first cut

Before cutting, attach the correct guard for your desired length. To prevent embarrassing slips, it’s wise to start using the longest guard for your whole head, then moving to progressively shorter guard lengths for the shorter parts of your style. Hold your clippers with the blades pointing downwards and the tip of the guard lightly touching your scalp. For the smartest cut, run the clippers in the opposite direction to your hair growth, letting the guard feed as much hair as possible into the clipper blades with each stroke.

Step 4: Keep it steady

Even working slowly, cutting your hair only takes a few minutes. Rush it and you might have to live with any mistakes for months. A steady pace helps you avoid tugging your hair or hitting your scalp, and helps achieve a smooth, comfortable cut. Working across the head in small sections lets you capture and cut all the hairs you want, without irritating your scalp

Step 5: Shape that nape

For a clean line at the nape of your neck, remove the guard and flip the clipper over in your hand. Carefully cut a line at the back of the neck and around the ears, making sure you draw the clippers downwards from the hairline. You wouldn’t mow the lawn in pitch darkness; likewise, if you can’t see the parts of the your hair that you’re clipping, ask for help.

Step 6: Sharpen those sideburns

For razor sharp sideburns, start by cutting a line across the bottom of each, using a mirror to make sure they’re even lengths. If you have facial hair below the sideburns, remember to use a guard to provide a smooth transition from the sideburns to the beard.

Step 7: Give your clippers some love

Clean your clippers after each use by brushing the blades free of hair, disinfecting them with alcohol and then applying a thin film of the oil that came with them. It’s a few seconds work in return for years of trouble-free trimming.
